Hello - I’m Sean Markin.  I’ve been in strategic marketing and product development for over two decades.  My Father is a therapist and my whole life I’ve seen the powerful impact therapy can have on peoples’ lives and incredible challenges therapists face running a private practice.  

WeTHRV began with a simple question: Why do so many amazingly skilled and passionate therapists struggle to build practices that truly sustain and fulfill them? 

My team and I spent months engaging in deep conversations with therapists.  What we heard consistently was a story of dedication mixed with frustration – the desire to make more money from their current client load, the pressure to find more clients, the limitations of the hourly fee model, the feeling of being just another name in Psychology Today, the slow creep of burnout, and the untapped potential for greater impact and creativity.

We saw therapists navigating the complexities of running a business while pouring their hearts into their clinical work. We heard the aversion to traditional marketing that sometimes felt pushy or inauthentic, the dependence on unpredictable referral sources, and the desire for a practice that felt both prosperous and deeply aligned with their purpose.

Our aha moment 

As we reflected on these conversations and our own experiences with therapy, our years of working across industries and with startups allowed us to see a key insight - something that also plagues too many tech startups, as well: the challenge often isn't a lack of effort, but a lack of client focus.  

Positioning yourself around the symptoms you treat (e.g., anxiety) and the tools you use (e.g., EMDR) puts you in a crowded field and makes it nearly impossible to stand out and attract ideal clients consistently.  

Everyone has issues, but we all have issues for different reasons.

This realization led us to develop Niche Specialized Therapy – a framework designed specifically to help therapists identify their unique strengths and use those strengths to connect deeply with the client groups they love serving, ultimately building a practice around that focused passion.
